With the MTV VMAs less then 3 weeks away (Aug 20), MTV has announced that Jennifer Lopez will “100% not only be at the show to pick up the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, BUT she will also perform at the VMAs.
“I grew up in the MTV era” — “I was watching all the way back from Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna and Janet [Jackson] and Michael [Jackson], all of them. They were my inspirations to get into the music business, to do what I did. Their videos inspired me to do the videos I did. Now, to be 20 years in and here and winning this award, it’s just mind blowing.” -J.Lo
J.Lo’s is also nominated for 2 VMAs for her colab with Cardi B and DJ Khaled.

The last time J.Lo performed at the VMAs was the year Britney and Justin wore his-and-hers matching denim, 2001.
J.Lo has been nominated for 21 VMAs so far and has won twice. She won in 2000 for Best Dance Video for Waiting For Tonight and in 2002 she won Best Hip-Hop Video for I’m Real.
SIDENOTE: She has also won 2 MTV Movie Awards, in 2001 for The Cell and in 2015 for The Boy Next Door.
Previous recipients of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award are Rihanna, Beyoncé, Madonna, Kanye West, and last year’s recipient, P!nk.
