White Goose Bistro is a family-owned restaurant in Prince George that has supported the community for years. They offer a personal touch on dining where they strive to make their patrons feel at home the minute they step in the door.
White Goose has been a staunch supporter of the community from their home in the downtown core, with the most notable initiative being that of their Christmas Dinners, which earned them more than one Amplify PG nomination. Every year, White Goose Bistro has amped up the spirit of the holiday season by offering a free Christmas dinner to PG residents that need a little bit of help in their celebration.
Bistro owner Fallon states, “we just wanted to ensure people had a place they could go to where they instantly felt like it was a big family celebration. Whether they were a single parent with kids, a student that moved away for school, or someone that just needed help getting dinner on the table, we wanted them to feel comfortable grabbing a meal and receiving a welcoming restaurant experience”. The community has rallied around this initiative, with huge amounts of volunteers offering their services every year to help others celebrate a welcoming holiday dinner.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 meant the White Goose yearly tradition needed to undergo a bit of a twist to provide the experience this time around. Instead of opening their doors for a gathering, the Bistro took to delivery to make sure people could still get a flash of support from the restaurant.
“We delivered over 400 Christmas dinners last year,” says Fallon. “Some of those were to people that were dealing with the loneliness of self-isolation, as well as families that were struggling to make a holiday dinner as they were focused on their child’s battle with cancer”.
The community was well supported by White Goose Bistro around this time, as many were able to get a holiday dinner delivered right to their homes to help bring some light to a season facing unprecedented challenges.
“Our team at White Goose just wants to send out a big THANK YOU to Prince George for this nomination and all the support we’ve gotten to keep us afloat through restrictions and lockdowns” says Fallon.
White Goose Bistro is looking to return to the restaurant-based Christmas celebration this winter, assuming restrictions allow for it.
