Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 is an organization committed to making a difference in the lives of Veterans and their families, providing essential services in our communities, and remembering the men and women who sacrificed for our country. The Legion is guided by 3 priorites: Remember, Join, & Give. They consider their major responsibility to be their annual Poppy Campaign, which reminds Canadians of the 117,000 men and woman to give their lives in wars & military missions around the world. Poppy funds are collected by volunteers for assistance to veterans, ex-service members and their families who are in need.
One of hundreds of legions across the country, Legion 43 has been a staple of the PG community for over 95 years now. In addition to their work supporting Veterans, Legion 43 can also be seen providing assistance to many other charities, hospitals, and societies in Prince George, whether through volunteering or providing a place to gather at their building on 6th Avenue.
The Legion building welcomes everyone inside, inviting all to come enjoy the pool tables, kitchen, and fully stocked bar. Legion 43 is well known in the community for providing a stage for local talent to showcase their performances, displaying a large range of history from Veterans in the community, and offering a welcoming atmosphere to those looking for a good meal & drink.
Jon Scott, Service Officer at Legion 43, served in the military for 18 years. He joined the Legion as he felt he needed to continue giving back to others like himself. He states: “that is why the Legion exists: because Veterans like to pay back”.
Legion 43 is always looking for more people to get involved in what they do and help change the lives of those who paved the way for us today. Jon Scott continues that the Legion “needs young people. Some of us are getting older and we need some young people to come take over for goodness sakes”.
Legion 43 is located at 1116 6th Avenue in Prince George.
