If you’re considering changing your pet’s diet, you should consult with your veterinarian first to see if it’s right for your pet.
PRINCE GEORGE—Pets are family, and when it comes to family, it’s important to feed them to give them the best life possible. That’s the inspiration behind a local pet supply store that believes animals should get the diet they were born to have.
4 Paws Pure began 15 years ago with the focus of providing raw, single ingredient foods that gives pets a diet that owners Gwen and Mel Arrowsmith say, were designed to have.
“There is unfortunately not very many requirements or regulations when it comes to pet food, that’s why we focus on single ingredient pure foods,” said Gwen Arrowsmith.
After one of their own pets passed away, they wanted to make a change.
“We actually had one of our pups die 37 days after we adopted her. Her name was Tara. She was a big inspiration for us because I always wondered how on Earth these companies could make and sell these products,” said Gwen.
4 Paws Pure won this year’s Prince George Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year from the BEA. They were also nominated for five other awards and took home Microbusiness of the Year in the past. They work hard to make sure everything in store is up to their standards, with 90% of their products being made in Canada and their food made in their inhouse kitchen.
“It’s what it is, it’s what the animals should be fed, is a natural prey diet and it gets simpler, it’s kind of interesting and it’s kind of fun in the kitchen some days.” said Mel Arrowsmith.
The store not only provides treats and food, it has toys, beds, and will soon feature a photo booth.
Once COVID-19 ends, the owners also want to give pet owners the opportunity to learn more about transitioning to a raw food diet.
“What we are in the market for is educating people on how to feed real food, fresh food, and make a difference in that dog’s life,” said Gwen.
4 Paws Pure will soon have a new location at 3110 15th Ave. The store is open from Tuesday to Friday 10AM-6PM and Saturdays 10AM-5PM.
