The House of Ancestors Conference Center, or Uda Dune Baiyoh, is a venue & café located in downtown Prince George. Previously a shuttered cinema, the business was renovated & reopened by the Lheidli T’enneh Nation in 2018. The HOA works to provide PG & surrounding regions with a warm & welcoming venue for conferences & gatherings, while showcasing Lheidli T’enneh history, traditions, culture, and identity.
Featuring a large hall with seating for 200 or more people, smaller-sized meeting rooms, full kitchen, and café, the House of Ancestors adapts their space for the needs of the community using the space. The HOA has hosted events like the LEAP Conference for Women, vaccine clinics with Northern Health, and will be hosting some upcoming performances with the 2022 Coldsnap Winter Music Festival. Crystal Gibbs, operations manager for HOA, says the space is great for anything from meetings & conferences to weddings & concerts.
The café portion of HOA has also quickly become a community favourite, after the nerve-wracking mid-pandemic grand opening in July of 2020.
Since they opened, Bannock has been the most popular item on the menu for the café. Tracey Speed, chef for HOA, explains that it seemed like “the obvious thing to do as a business of the Lheidli T’enneh” when they were planning the idea for the café. Tracey & the team continue to experiment with toppings for bannock to keep loyal customers excited for the next new twist. Other items offered include fresh soups, sandwiches, hot & cold drinks, and more.
As restrictions ease & capacity limits increase, Uda Dune Baiyoh looks forward to hosting more gatherings for the community & local groups, and continue their efforts to provide a venue perfect for any size needs.
House Of Ancestors is located at 355 Vancouver St in Downtown Prince George.
