“So northern ice sports is a new little recreational venue we’ve got in Prince George that has been around for a couple of years now. Our main business is running a small ice surface, its a two-thirds ice rink and we run that 11 months a year,“ said Mike Peterson, Co-Owner of Northern Ice Sports
This year there is something new at Northern Ice
“From May to September, we’re running some dry land space indoors. We’ve got some batting cages, we’ve got some basketball, we’ve got some badminton, we’ve got some inflatable curling. There’s ping pong, there’s pool, there’s foosball is just a total kid and adult mekka,” said Peterson
The idea for northern Ice came from seeing the interesting opportunities that a small rink provides in other communities, both from hockey skills training and general use.
The Guys at Northern Ice also do what they can to give back in the community.
“Some of the charity work that we’ve been honored to be able to participate in has been an annual skate by donation, with all money going to the University Hospitals Pediatric Division. Really important to us supporting the little people, of course, because they support us, “said Peterson.
Northern Ice will be running youth summer camps this year, currently out of their dryland space and in the near future on-ice activities will also be available.
“So what we wanted to do is provide some cost-effective youth summer camps. And we want to keep the kids busy, keep them off their phones. So we have camps there on our website. It’s a really neat facility. We’ve got the batting cages, we’ve got the basketball nets, we’ve got a more lounge area, we’ve got green space within a five-minute walk,” said Peterson.
