You might see a sea of pink in the City of Prince George today because it’s Pink Shirt Day!
In 2007, a young grade 9 student showed up to school wearing a pink shirt and he got bullied for it. Two other students went out of their way, bought 50 pink shirts and handed them out the next day to stand up again the bullies. Pink Shirt Day was born. In 2008, Premier Gordon Campbell proclaimed the last Wednesday of February as “Pink Shirt Day” and it’s been like that ever since.
While it is great to wear pink shirts, we need to make sure that we stand up to bullies everyday and be kind to everyone!
