The world has lost a towering figure in science and conservation. Dr. Jane Goodall, renowned primatologist, anthropologist, and environmental advocate, passed away on October 1, 2025, at the age of 91 while on a speaking tour in California.
Goodall’s groundbreaking research in Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park forever changed our understanding of chimpanzees. She was the first to observe that they make and use tools, express emotions, and form complex social bonds—redefining the boundary between humans and animals.
Beyond her scientific contributions, Goodall was a tireless voice for wildlife protection, sustainability, and peace. Through the Jane Goodall Institute and her Roots & Shoots youth program, she inspired generations to care deeply for the planet and its inhabitants.
Her passing marks the end of an era, but her legacy will continue to shape how we see the natural world—and our place within it.
