Ovechkin Fined 30+ Times This Summer

Alexander Ovechkin apparently spent his summer chasing another record — just not one he’ll want engraved on a trophy.

The Washington Capitals captain reportedly picked up 33 traffic fines during roughly four months back home in Russia this offseason.

And this wasn’t one particularly bad afternoon.

Reports say Ovi’s collection included speeding, unpaid parking, stopping or parking where he shouldn’t and driving on toll roads without paying. Altogether, the fines totalled 82,000 rubles — roughly $1,350 CAD.

Even better, all 33 violations were reportedly connected to Ovechkin’s Aurus Arsenal, a rather ridiculous luxury Russian minivan.

Because apparently even one of the greatest goal scorers of all time eventually enters his minivan era.

Ovi has reportedly already paid 32 of the 33 fines, with just one ticket worth roughly $74 CAD still outstanding.

Back in 2008, when he received a key to Washington, D.C., Ovi joked that since he was basically president for the day, everyone should have fun and there should be “no speed limit.”

Eighteen years later, Russian traffic enforcement apparently still disagrees.

Thirty-three tickets in one summer works out to roughly two traffic violations every week.

Maybe someone should just let Ovi take the bus to training camp.
