Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC are a charity organization that helps to support the youth in Northern BC through mentoring programs and both one-to-one & group programs for both in-school activities and outside of school.
They believe in working to give children the opportunity to reach their potential and supporting the community through their efforts.
The organization helps the youth through their mentoring & group programs, like community mentoring where a “Big” is matched with a “little” to help provide a role model & friend to share the experience of growing up with through activities like bowling, hiking, or just grabbing a bite to eat. Other programs include In-School Mentoring, Group Mentoring, and now Virtual Mentoring for communities throughout Northern BC.
BBBS also works to support the area by holding annual events to raise funds for the youth programs & bring fun, exciting events to the community like their “Big Squeeze”; an event where the community can enjoy a twist on a classic lemonade from many different businesses & organizations around town, with all proceeds going towards supporting BBBS programs for children in the area.
Other events include an annual “Glow Golf” Tournament, where members of the community can deck themselves out in glowsticks & light-up gear before hitting the golf course at sundown, and “The Big Gala”, a gala night where supporters can enjoy a night of themed-partying along with food, games, and entertainment.
Big Brothers Big Sisters also works to give a voice to initiatives that are relevant to the youth they support. Initiatives like Pink Shirt Day, where they work to spread the message to #BeKind, and ask people to wear pink and raise awareness on the effect of bullying in schools & communities.
Through their work in both supporting youth & our community, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC hopes to make a positive difference in people’s lives, and help children gain the tools needed to succeed moving forward.
