Birch & Boar Charcuterie & Provisions is a grocery store specializing in cured meats, local goods, and hot meal options. When the business began in 2016, it was working out of a rented kitchen and sold product at the local farmers markets as they worked towards building, expanding, and supporting the local food economy here in Prince George.
Now a few years into their location on George Street, and recipients of the 2019 Chamber of Commerce “Business of the Year” award, Birch & Boar continues to help the community taste the difference that local makes. Their selection of in-house cured meats, fresh steaks, and pork, are all sourced from local PG & BC farms. The business also makes an effort to utilize produce from around PG as well and bring it to their shelves & ready-made meals.
Brian Quarmby, Marketing Director for Birch & Boar, specifies that “our meat comes from Vanderhoof’s Whispering River Farms or the pork comes from Tenish Farms out in Salmon Valley”. He continues that “if we can’t do Prince George we try and do BC”.
Founded by 5 friends, Birch & Boar has made a name for themselves in PG through their friendly atmosphere, ready-to-go lunches, and support for the local area. Their products have even made it onto the menus of local businesses like Northern Lights Estate Winery, Nancy O’s, Betulla Burning, Trench, and more.
Their community support doesn’t stop with farmers & the food economy, however. Birch & Boar also works to support local businesses & causes, such as fundraising done by the business in support of Handsome Cabin Boy Tattoo, after they became the victim of an arson, Birch & Boar’s work done with Kyle’s Kindness, a local autism awareness & resource initiative, and work with local events.
Birch & Boar Charcuterie & Provisions is located at 547 George Street in Downtown Prince George.
