PRINCE GEORGE—The go-to place for Mexican food, Amigo’s Taco Shop has been serving lunch to downtown Prince George for almost 4 decades.
“It is a local Mexican restaurant, locally-owned from day one. I bought it off the original owner, so I’m the second owner, and for the most part, it’s soft tacos, burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas. Homemade Mexican rice. All the sauces are made in-house and homemade guacamole. So mostly everything is made from scratch here,” said Patty Knezevic, Owner of Amigo’s.
Knezevic has owned Amigo’s Taco Shop for 16 years.
“It started out primarily as a lunch business. We do stay open until 7 p.m. every night for a bit of a dinner rush, but for the most part, it is a lunch rush business,” said Knezevic.
The original owners of Amigo’s started working with kids and schools in the community and Knezevic has built on that early community work.
“When I first took over the business, they were doing a few school lunches. I do have more and more schools reach out to me all the time to provide meals for elementary schools as well as a few high schools. So it is a nice option for the kids to get something different and homemade,” said Knezevic.
If you have not been to Amigo’s, Knezevic thinks there are a few reasons you should visit.
“I would say they should definitely come and try out all of our homemade fresh salsas, refried beans made from scratch, Mexican rice, and mostly our customer service,” said Knezevic.
Getting the Amplify nomination was the result of a whole team effort according to Knezevic.
“That really means a lot to me. I’m really proud of my staff. Everybody shows up every day and puts in their best effort. We really do our best to make sure that every customer is served exactly what they want, exactly how they want it, and it means a lot that someone out there in the community has recognized that. We are very thankful and very grateful for our regular clientele,” said Knezevic.
