PRINCE GEORGE—A little piece of Asia in Prince George can be found on Fifth Avenue. Owner Brian Chang opened Marquee nearly five years ago taking over the space from the previous Chinese grocery store that Chang also owned.
“Marquee is an international grocery store specializing in Asian foods. Just in the last couple of years, we started expanding into Mexican, and Latino products. Just last month we started doing the Persian, and Arabic food just a little bit,” said Chang
One of the most popular spots in the store is quite the sight. A wall of instant noodles of every flavour and spice level you can imagine. The noodle wall is about 30 feet long and from the floor to the top shelf, it is filled with brands you may recognize but a lot you probably will not.
“We try to do all the authentic international products. A lot of the stuff that you can get at the big grocery stores, and we just specialize in stuff that’s really hard to get,” said Chang.
With all the exotic food you can find here, the most difficult product to get may surprise you.
“The hardest thing to get now is Siracha. We can get Siracha right now. All of our wholesalers are just totally sold out,” said Chang.
A bad pepper crop this spring has caused Huy Fong Foods to make major cutbacks in their production of the popular sauce among other products.
The crew at Marquee wants you to know that they appreciate the support and the community that surrounds them.
“We just appreciate people coming downtown and promoting downtown businesses and, you know, we as a downtown core trying to do our best to make Prince George livable and awesome,” says Chang.
