PRINCE GEORGE – Two suspects involved in an alleged carjacking earlier this year have been hit with several charges.
The B.C Prosecution Service (BCPS) confirmed charges against Dean Mecham and Romeo Sygrove. On March 13, 2024, they were both charged with:
Ct 1 – unlawful confinement s.279(2)(a)
Ct 2 – robbery s.344(1)(a)
Shortly after, on March 15, the BCPS also confirmed 12 more counts against the accused, being:
Ct 1 – unlawful confinement s.279(2)(a)
Ct 2 – robbery s.344(1)(a)
Ct 3 – pointing a firearm s.87(1)
Ct 4 – possess a loaded firearm s.95(1)
Ct 5 – occupy vehicle with firearm s.94(1)
Ct 6 – possess firearm s.91(1)
Ct 7 – possess firearm knowing unauth s.92(1)
Ct 8 – utter threats s.264.1(1)
Ct 9 – assault with a weapon s.267(a)
Ct 10 – theft motor vehicle s.333.1(1)
Ct 11 – possess firearm while restricted s.117.01(1)
Ct 12 – robbery s.344(1)(b)
“Both accused have been in custody since their arrest on March 13. Mr. Mecham’s next court appearance is on April 11 for a bail hearing. Mr. Sygrove’s next court appearance is on April 15, also for a bail hearing. The matter is being heard at Williams Lake Law Courts,” said a statement from the BCPS.
The carjacking incident occurred on March 13 at around 1:00 a.m. in the North Kelly Road area. Two people were robbed at gunpoint, but no one was injured.
