Not Just a Mother, But a Soulmate.
How are you supposed to describe the love you feel for someone as special as your mother? The bond between my mother and I is hard to even out into words. I would even say that "mother" is too broad of a term, best friend or companion doesn't cover it either. The only way I could come close to describing it is soulmate. She encompasses everything a mother should be and has never once complained about giving that much of herself. To give you an accurate picture as to why our bond is so strong and why she deserves this prize I will have to give you a little background briefing.
My mom got pregnant with me when she was 24, I know not that young, but when you get left by the father of your child when you are 9 months pregnant everything I'm sure is a lot more scary and lonely. From what people have told me she never once complained or thought of giving me up. She moved back in with her parents and had me. She worked 2 jobs while raising a baby and that then started the time in which everyone was put before herself. Since the moment I was born she never has taken a spa day, a day trip, or just a day to take care of herself.
Fast forward 4 years later, she has met my sister's dad 2 years previous and my sister is born. She was in this relationship for a long time, 14 years if I remember correctly. 14 years of mental abuse from a guy who nothing was ever good enough for. Even though she has gone through all that for so long, she has never once broken, gave up or quit. She was still putting everyone first even though after all that you would think that she should take sometime to herself.
My mother is our biggest supporter and our biggest fan. She is the mom that all my friends wished was there mom and she was the mom that got volunteered to be the team mom for every sports team we have ever played on if she wasn't the one coaching. She has molded my sister and I into kind, respectful, yet fierce and loyal people. Most families stick together because 'that is what families do' but for us, there is never a thought about being without each other. My mom is my soulmate and without her by my side I would be half the person I am now.
In closing this story, whether she wins this prize or not, whether you live with your mom, 5 minutes away or across the country go see her at work, call her, or visit her at home and tell her you love her. Mostly though, tell her thank you because without my mom I don't even know what I would do. She deserves a day off from real life, if not a day even an hr. Mother's are the nurtures of the world and maybe if everyone looked at the world with such compassion, love, forgiveness and perseverance as my mother and other mothers all over the world, we might begin to heal this planet that we live on.
